ABERDEEN manager Mark McGhee believes Motherwell counterpart Jim Gannon is using mind games in the countdown to today's SPL encounter at Fir Park. McGhee reckons the comments of his Well successor, who hit out at the Dons manager's admission he wants to sign Fir Park winger Jim O'Brien at the end of the season, are a ploy to add further spice to an already tasty encounter. McGhee said: "I think he has misread what I have said or he's not read it and relied on people telling him second hand. "I was a

Dynamo midfielder Stuart Holden has emerged as a potential signing target for Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen, according to Reds manager Mark McGhee. McGhee this week revealed the U.S. international is one of the names on his list of possible January acquisitions as he looks to bolster his squad for a shot at Europa League qualification. Any move for Holden, 24, is made easier by his dual-nationality status.

I haven’t actually seen Stuart myself in the flesh but I have seen a lot of DVDs and I know he is a good player   -Mark McGhee

Hibs could draw level with Celtic if they can return from a trip to Paisley with three points.

MARK McGhee insists Aberdeen will have a bright future - if four of his rising stars agree to sign new deals. The Pittodrie club demanded payback from Peter Pawlett, Fraser Fyvie, Michael Paton and Chris Maguire for putting their careers on track by agreeing fresh contracts. Winger Pawlett is set to commit to a four-year extension and the other three look likely to follow his example by showing their loyalty to the Dons for giving them their big break.

Mark McGhee has become the latest manager to rule himself out of the running for the vacant Scotland job. McGhee, who was rejected in favour of the ousted George Burley for the role in 2007, has described the post as "rotten" and says that every supporter "knows better" when it comes to picking the team. McGhee was Motherwell manager when he missed out on the chance to replace Alex McLeish and now finds himself at Aberdeen, having made the move north in the summer.

Why any of us want to do the job is ridiculous   -Mark McGhee

A QUIET week in the People's Republic of Aberdonia, unless you count the links between our current manager and our previous manager with the now-finally-vacant Scotland manager's position. Mark McGhee is ruling himself out, which will mean a sigh of relief for the Dons supporters who believed those bitter Motherwell fans who informed us that he would leave as soon as the first job turned up. Four months would have been extraordinarily early to jump ship, but considering the leaks he's found in the Pitto
